Storytime around the campfire

Newpolios
This week I want to talk about the storyline. I was drawn into this fantastical world of myth, magic, and adventures through books. Escaping middle school with dreams about spelunking, discovering boobie traps, and finding hidden treasures leaving behind the troubles of life. The first book I recall reading by choice alone was Sword of Shannara, by Terry Brooks. I was about eleven then and was attending the Auburn Middle School.

That first book began a passion for reading that fed my desire to learn. It has been a boon in so many ways since. I have read to escape the troubles of family life and to distract myself from the days in the solitude of incarceration. I have read to learn and have been blessed to have access to a world wide web.

Folks a passion for learning, or educating oneself if you will, is a powerful thing in this informational age. Where I once had to suffer questions no one could answer, I now have access to the accumulated opinions, research, facts and propaganda of nearly four billion people. A fact that is taken for granted I am afraid.

Apropos the development of  Epimetheus became not only possible it became an accumulation of all of my personal pursuits of knowledge with the introduction of the personal computer and the world wide web. We have breathed life into this game with an impossible amount of query-sorted information, much of which was found on the same wiki that my college professors abhorred. In addition, we have access to a semi-global network, perfect for exposure. We truly live in blessed times.

But I digress, we were talking about the storyline. Every good storyline has protagonists, antagonists, a plot, the build-up to a climax, and a closing of some sort. There are a lot of things going on in this story and am not honestly sure how it will all tie together at the end. My artistic talent has always relied on allowing my art to unfold with a life of its own. I have a general idea about what I am going for, but for the most part, the details come to life as I go along.

As things stand right now there are five major characters. You have met Roun our faithful Dwarven Diplomat, who has a back-story greatly entwined with the history of Aborlon. You have also met Shar the Human Gladiator who is plagued by a history of shame and guilt. Soon you will meet Quince' an ostracized Elven Knight who has ties to the royal bloodlines of Quistenite, a tired self-sacrificing Human Mage named Mickel and his brother Mavrix who is a Prince betrayed in the Stenocian court.

The antagonist is going to be kept secret for a while as I have yet to flesh his persona out and create a detailed backstory for him. Having just typed this far into the post it occurs to me that I have yet to include any female lead characters and will make haste to change that as the story progresses. We want to keep things politically correct and all not to mention I am a big fan of tough-as-nails women.

That being said I have just given a small way in which our followers can see something of theirs come to life: create a character for the storyline. Make it as detailed or vague as you like and I will write them into the storyline. Lol, can't get any easier than that.

For those who are following along with the progress of this game, you might notice how there are races included that are not in Aborlon. While the game is going to be restricted in some manner as we continue to develop the World of Epimetheus™, the storyline does not have to. So we will get to learn a little about other races like Orcs, Vampire, Minotaur, and Ogres. In addition, there will be story references to political affairs and wildlife.

In conclusion, there really are many benefits to posting the story on this blog. I would love to hear what people think about the characters, the story, the game, the classes, trades, races, rel.... well, you get the idea.

Anyway, thank you for taking the time to read our weekly post and have a blessed day.
