Dragons & Sub-dragon species

Image
The blood of dragons is said to run through the veins of the planet itself. Older than time with origins as uncertain as to the part they play in the world of Men, Monsters, and Fairie; Dragonkind span breeds, species, and physical boundaries. Most noticeable to the World of Epimetheus and its inhabitants are the colossal Dragons. These seven breeds of the colossal dragon species are elusive, powerful, and highly intelligent. However, there are many dragon subspecies. One of the more notable is the Draconian people of Glatar. There is another subspecies known as dragonette, with a diverse and colorful list of breeds. From the two-headed Viator to the feathered Dragonhawk, dragonettes come in many shapes and sizes. It is within this line of wildlife that we have been focused on this last quarter. The black dragon needed some serious rework. To save time step-by-step images were not created. Instead, side-by-sides are provided to show the direction and progress. For those that are l...

Forged in Fortitude

Image
Last month we described the monotony and lackluster of cartography. Specifically, the life-draining attempts at creating maps for Aborlon. Praise God for the discernment to switch gears rather than toss in the towel. Not that this team wasn't going to go the whole ten rounds with any challenge that confronted us. Nonetheless, switching to art asset creation has proven to be far more rewarding and productive than swinging at the formidable opponent of landscape development. Last month we shared the Axe and Sword collections. This week we would like to share some collages that cover a majority of what has been done in the last thirty or so days. Interestingly enough, as we are nearing the completion of the weapons list from the ' smithie ' trade tree it has provided many specialized skills to add to our ever-growing skills list . For example, perhaps your avatar in Aborlon is going to wield a sword. A common weapon choice really. After training the skill 1-handed swor...

The Cutting Edge

Image
Have you been following along like an addicted blog follower; impatiently tapping your foot between the monthly posts? Did you keep up with the happenings that have been taking place as we forge our way forward? Are you up to date on the current tasks we are tackling or have leveled our gazes at? Well, if you said yes to any of those questions then you might arch an eyebrow at this months post. Goodness, cartography is a tedious, slow-going process. Quite frankly my dear I have little to no desire to push forward on those tasks at the moment. In fact, it is going to require a heavenly decree from nothing short of an archangel to bring me back to those grueling life-sucking efforts. I would rather scratch my nails down a chalkboard or revert back to dial-up then spend one more minute creating a map. I jest not, it truly is that monotonous. Axes So to keep the progress moving forward I decided to try my hand at weaponsmithing. With several pumps of the bellows, the coals have be...

Big changes, so big the government had to shut down!

Image
By now many of you have gotten comfortable reading the weekly posts and I love ya for it. However, working on an art asset with no original to start with and restructuring the blog have proven to be time consumers. So, for now, I will show you what the centaur looks like right now and you will have to wait to see what the new blog set-up is going to look like. But I will tell you this much, the restructuring of the blog is moving us in a direction where there are plenty of opportunities for others to step in, grab a torch and run with it. We'll have blogs for the six categories: Wildlife, Professions, Races, World, Resources, and Mechanics. Forthwith, information related to the production of this game will be disseminated and developed under one of those categories. This central blog that you are on now, is a focal point for people to track the progress of, to comment on as well as contribute to or invest in the development of The World of Epimetheus. For now, however, I a...

Nailed it!

Image
I know what you're thinking. I have ESP. Yep, I do. Check this out: I am going to read your mind right now. Yes, this very second. But you are going to need to put something on there my friend, I cannot read a blank slate. Ahhhh, there we go. Thank you. You are thinking: So how does one create an art asset? If I wanted to contribute artwork to 'The World of Epimetheus™' and help shape the next immortal game franchise how would I begin? I mean I keep reading these posts on this site and hear about contributing but how exactly do I do that? This has got to be, 'ahem', verbatim what has been going on in your head every time you read a post on this blog, right? Hey, why do you have that weird look on your face? Seriously, folks, this is the birthplace of dreams and my imagination can dream 'em as crazy as it wants, so in my imagination THAT IS exactly what has been going on in your minds <insert> " diabolical laugh" . WELL... have I got the an...

Storytime around the campfire

Image
Newpolios    This week I want to talk about the storyline . I was drawn into this fantastical world of myth, magic, and adventures through books. Escaping middle school with dreams about spelunking, discovering boobie traps, and finding hidden treasures leaving behind the troubles of life. The first book I recall reading by choice alone was Sword of Shannara , by Terry Brooks. I was about eleven then and was attending the Auburn Middle School.    That first book began a passion for reading that fed my desire to learn. It has been a boon in so many ways since. I have read to escape the troubles of family life and to distract myself from the days in the solitude of incarceration. I have read to learn and have been blessed to have access to a world wide web. Folks a passion for learning, or educating oneself if you will, is a powerful thing in this informational age. Where I once had to suffer questions no one could answer, I now have access to the ac...

Navigating a Fantastical World

The edge of the horizon is always as fast as you are, but the way back is not always clear. As we continue to develop the continent of Aborlon the need to quickly access references and visual aides grow. In tandem, the content that we are creating to display the game growth also provides more of the vision of Epimetheus for contributors. In other words: by creating this new page Fantastical World we made something that we can use as reference and a neat way to watch the game grow. If you have any suggestions, comments, tips or even a piss-n-vinegar complaint then please feel free to leave a comment below, email me at nathan.epimetheus@gmail.com or register with our forum. Please, spread the word about our unique project, become part of an experience. - Nathan

Crafting Madness Made Simple

Image
What good is a sandbox world without crafting? It would sort of be like removing the sand part of a sandbox, would it not?   Maybe that would be more like playing in a pool. Remembering the delighted 8 years old who spent hours in the sand with matchbox cars, Tonka trucks, and G.I. Joes I cannot help but smile at the unrestrained imagination of a young boy. Anywho, resources that are grown in the world of Epimetheus or harvested from the depths of the lands, are used to produce goods throughout the game. This requires a system of ' basic resources'  to ' advanced goods' recipe trees that must tie directly into both skill trees and classes. To that end, much of what is being done to expand ' Crafting ' will continue to evolve as other trades and classes are fleshed out. There are 19 trades that specialize in the manufacturing of goods. Apothecary , Toxicologists , Alchemists , Potters , Woodworkers , Artisans , Carpenters , Masons , Architects , Tinsmiths ...

Things That Make You Go Hmmmm...

This week instead of writing an actual article I will be going through the task list and updating it, along with the accompanying graphs and points. Let me share this: considering the long road ahead of us, I cannot help but wonder if there will be a contributor who tries to earn the most points. An interesting consideration really, though improbable. However, simply making such a statement in of itself could be the challenge that nurtures the motivation from someone to attempt it. Things that make you go "Hmmmm". Back to the topic at hand: Tasks, points, and graphs. Many tasks have been accomplished but there are still plenty to go around. Mostly the tasks that we have worked on were to finish the blog and peripherals, which make our goals achievable. Nonetheless, the current state of our blog is pretty impressive (I am a little biased). To be honest, I haven't heard of a single complaint aside from the unsecured warning that some devices receive for accessing the mob...
