Dragons & Sub-dragon species

Image
The blood of dragons is said to run through the veins of the planet itself. Older than time with origins as uncertain as to the part they play in the world of Men, Monsters, and Fairie; Dragonkind span breeds, species, and physical boundaries. Most noticeable to the World of Epimetheus and its inhabitants are the colossal Dragons. These seven breeds of the colossal dragon species are elusive, powerful, and highly intelligent. However, there are many dragon subspecies. One of the more notable is the Draconian people of Glatar. There is another subspecies known as dragonette, with a diverse and colorful list of breeds. From the two-headed Viator to the feathered Dragonhawk, dragonettes come in many shapes and sizes. It is within this line of wildlife that we have been focused on this last quarter. The black dragon needed some serious rework. To save time step-by-step images were not created. Instead, side-by-sides are provided to show the direction and progress. For those that are l...

Forged in Fortitude

Last month we described the monotony and lackluster of cartography. Specifically, the life-draining attempts at creating maps for Aborlon. Praise God for the discernment to switch gears rather than toss in the towel. Not that this team wasn't going to go the whole ten rounds with any challenge that confronted us. Nonetheless, switching to art asset creation has proven to be far more rewarding and productive than swinging at the formidable opponent of landscape development. Last month we shared the Axe and Sword collections. This week we would like to share some collages that cover a majority of what has been done in the last thirty or so days. Interestingly enough, as we are nearing the completion of the weapons list from the ' smithie ' trade tree it has provided many specialized skills to add to our ever-growing skills list . For example, perhaps your avatar in Aborlon is going to wield a sword. A common weapon choice really. After training the skill 1-handed swor...

Where's the Content?

Image
I bet many of you are wondering: why the gap in posts? Well this page, Team Epimetheus, serves as the front page of our collaborative efforts. However, there are a total of eight pages (blogs) all tied together. These other blogs, or lairs as we like to call them, were created to make navigation of our accomplishments as well as overall direction both more manageable and easier to browse through. Eventually, we will purchase a domain and transfer all of this to a private website. For now, Blogger has provided an amazing platform that costs absolutely nothing to utilize. I really am a fan of what is possible with Blogger, and applaud their services. So what are these other pages that I speak of? I am glad you asked that question. Let me give you a quick tour of our creative realm. Grab your torches, lock-picking tools and let's gear up for an adventure the likes of which will never be matched again in this digitized world! You are of course aware of our cover page: Team Epime...

A moment of silence

Image
First and foremost let us take a moment to pray for and/or show respect for the lost life in Alabama . Please forgive me for my sins Lord. Such a tragedy, I pray that hope, love, and joy saturates that region for years to come. Dear Father above, Papa, I ask that it be your will to turn this tragedy into an opportunity to perform miracles and glorify your holy name. You know father that there is no greater loss than the loss of the ones you love, and so I ask that the Holy Spirit comfort the citizens of Oklahoma, that the people in that tornado-ravaged land who have lost so much might find strength in the ones around them. I ask this on the authority granted us by the covenant bound through your son's sacrifice. Lord, please show mercy and grace. Amen. Alright, thank you for entertaining this Christian's beliefs and showing respect for our fellow countrymen, women, and children. I am not really great at coping with loss or such suffering, so please do not think me insensit...

Huckleberry Backflips!!!

Image
Artist: Nathan W Winter is fading. Yes, I said it. You see the days are getting longer and the chill doesn't seem to bite so hard anymore. Small birds have flown into town and there is a smell to springtime. Promise. Loving spring reminds me that we are fast approaching a Toyota's favorite time of year: MUD SEASON!!!! Lol! Spring is a time of change, growth and new life. The World of Epimetheus will be delivering that to you this spring as well. In fact, there have been a few requests to share what we have lined up right now and by golly, it would make a perfect thingy to talk about on this here blog. Yessah! Artist: Timothy W. There is a considerable amount of work behind putting these blogs together believe it or not. I am a veteran blogger. Structuring something like this can be complicated and complicated is not easy to describe. In fact, I would say that it is complicated trying to describe anything complicated, but now I am just ove...

Big changes, so big the government had to shut down!

By now many of you have gotten comfortable reading the weekly posts and I love ya for it. However, working on an art asset with no original to start with and restructuring the blog have proven to be time consumers. So, for now, I will show you what the centaur looks like right now and you will have to wait to see what the new blog set-up is going to look like. But I will tell you this much, the restructuring of the blog is moving us in a direction where there are plenty of opportunities for others to step in, grab a torch and run with it. We'll have blogs for the six categories: Wildlife, Professions, Races, World, Resources, and Mechanics. Forthwith, information related to the production of this game will be disseminated and developed under one of those categories. This central blog that you are on now, is a focal point for people to track the progress of, to comment on as well as contribute to or invest in the development of The World of Epimetheus. For now, however, I a...

Nailed it!

Image
I know what you're thinking. I have ESP. Yep, I do. Check this out: I am going to read your mind right now. Yes, this very second. But you are going to need to put something on there my friend, I cannot read a blank slate. Ahhhh, there we go. Thank you. You are thinking: So how does one create an art asset? If I wanted to contribute artwork to 'The World of Epimetheus™' and help shape the next immortal game franchise how would I begin? I mean I keep reading these posts on this site and hear about contributing but how exactly do I do that? This has got to be, 'ahem', verbatim what has been going on in your head every time you read a post on this blog, right? Hey, why do you have that weird look on your face? Seriously, folks, this is the birthplace of dreams and my imagination can dream 'em as crazy as it wants, so in my imagination THAT IS exactly what has been going on in your minds <insert> " diabolical laugh" . WELL... have I got the an...

Getting the Dirt on Epimetheus

Image
I am having fun making small art assets for metal and dust. Once I created a template, banging out a handful of pics in a relatively short time was a snap. I have more on the way but the Product Manager is anxious to see the completion of the race pics. So I will be focused on those for the next couple of weeks. Then there is the matter of a little dirt. And this is the kind of dirt that will have people bursting at the seems with gossip. Okay, maybe it won't, but this is a site where imaginations take life so...<meek voice> maybe. Whether or not that is the case these images are some simple art assets that can be reproduced with basic art apps. Anyways, I am referring to the rocks and dust below. Take a peek, post a comment, spread the word or just let your imagination take flight. This sort of contribution is very simple and can be fun. Ya know, for those industrious sorts, not the spectators, but the actuators! With an object inventory of over 2000 items and each nee...

Flying Pink What?!?

Image
Furry Little Friend You know I have literally been brainstorming on this game for over 25 years. True story yo. So as you can imagine there are all kinds of nifty little ideas that I have accumulated to make the World of Epimetheus not only the first of its kind but also interesting, surprising, and humorous. Everybody loves finding easter eggs in a game right? So much so that they have become a relatively common element in today's games. Well in Epimetheus there is a flying pink bunny (which is supposed to be adorable by the way) that has a mischievous demeanor who also happens to have a little horn on its forehead. A flying pink unicorn bunny that loves to play pranks....ok check. The easter egg part will include not only finding her but also catching the little miscreant. Seriously this little critter is fast and evasive. There will even be times where players can hear her snicker but not see her without enchantments or versa vice: cannot hear her without e...

Navigating a Fantastical World

The edge of the horizon is always as fast as you are, but the way back is not always clear. As we continue to develop the continent of Aborlon the need to quickly access references and visual aides grow. In tandem, the content that we are creating to display the game growth also provides more of the vision of Epimetheus for contributors. In other words: by creating this new page Fantastical World we made something that we can use as reference and a neat way to watch the game grow. If you have any suggestions, comments, tips or even a piss-n-vinegar complaint then please feel free to leave a comment below, email me at nathan.epimetheus@gmail.com or register with our forum. Please, spread the word about our unique project, become part of an experience. - Nathan

Crafting Madness Made Simple

Image
What good is a sandbox world without crafting? It would sort of be like removing the sand part of a sandbox, would it not?   Maybe that would be more like playing in a pool. Remembering the delighted 8 years old who spent hours in the sand with matchbox cars, Tonka trucks, and G.I. Joes I cannot help but smile at the unrestrained imagination of a young boy. Anywho, resources that are grown in the world of Epimetheus or harvested from the depths of the lands, are used to produce goods throughout the game. This requires a system of ' basic resources'  to ' advanced goods' recipe trees that must tie directly into both skill trees and classes. To that end, much of what is being done to expand ' Crafting ' will continue to evolve as other trades and classes are fleshed out. There are 19 trades that specialize in the manufacturing of goods. Apothecary , Toxicologists , Alchemists , Potters , Woodworkers , Artisans , Carpenters , Masons , Architects , Tinsmiths ...
