Where's the Content?

I bet many of you are wondering: why the gap in posts? Well this page, Team Epimetheus, serves as the front page of our collaborative efforts. However, there are a total of eight pages (blogs) all tied together. These other blogs, or lairs as we like to call them, were created to make navigation of our accomplishments as well as overall direction both more manageable and easier to browse through.

Eventually, we will purchase a domain and transfer all of this to a private website. For now, Blogger has provided an amazing platform that costs absolutely nothing to utilize. I really am a fan of what is possible with Blogger, and applaud their services.

So what are these other pages that I speak of? I am glad you asked that question. Let me give you a quick tour of our creative realm. Grab your torches, lock-picking tools and let's gear up for an adventure the likes of which will never be matched again in this digitized world!

You are of course aware of our cover page: Team Epimetheus, that is the one you are on now. This is where it all started. It is the central location, the Emerald City of our fantastic Oz. On all other pages, this page is listed as Home in the links found on the left-hand margin of all the lairs. This is where updates are most commonly found, where we direct people to specific accomplishments and related material, we have links to our Go Fund Me, Facebook Group, Forum and our very own novel that takes place in the amazing world of Epimetheus.

The Armory is where you will see rare objects, mundane items, legendary weapons and ancient gear created and published. Some objects will have history and backstories whereas the more mundane items probably won't. Material breakdowns and schematics are going to be attached to those items as there is going to be a heavy recipe-driven industry available for the smithies and industrialists of the game. There will always be room for creative content in this "lair".

The Mechanics Lair is where the infrastructure of the game will take shape. This is where sound bytes, UML's, algorithms and game mechanics will take shape and solidify the nuts and bolts of the game world. I suspect that this will be one of the last pages to flesh out as there are many steps in the pre-production cycle that will need to be hashed out before the game starts being coded.

What would you want to be in this open sandbox, player-driven MMORPG? Perhaps you want to be a Knight, fighting for honor or perhaps you would like to be a Pirate Captain, sailing the sea in pursuit of booty? Whichever the case may be, you will find the description and skill matrixes found in the Professions lair. While nearly all of the industrial professions have an outline, none of the combat classes have been worked on as of this post. There is a lot of work to be done in this lair!

To return to the topic of this post: Where's the Content? You will want to check the Races page to see what has been accomplished since May. There are thirteen races available to play in Aborlon. Of those thirteen, twelve have been remastered from hand art to digital art. Each race has a bio, or will once they have all been created. Their base stats, attributes, special abilities, longevity, and other game-related information will be listed eventually. There is still time to get involved in their creation, so message us before it is too late!

If you have played Minecraft than you know that sandbox games require a variety of resources to make recipes possible. Can you remember the first time you successfully made an end portal? It took time, right? Part of the fun was in locating and gathering the appropriate resources. Well creating an abundant list of those things is a good starting point. In the Resources lair, you will see them slowly be categorized and listed along with initial concept art to identify their artistic direction. At the time of this article, we have a total of 1381 objects listed and ready for art asset creation. That's a lot of opportunity!

Wildlife is a page where the animals, mounts, monsters and other such mobs will be posted. Their bios and stats, their common habitats, eating habits, reproductive patterns, and migratory behaviors will also be listed. Remember that the World of Epimetheus is going to be a simulated world that continues to grow and evolve even when players aren't logged in. This is quite possibly the most common lair for outside contribution. Nothing seems to spark peoples motivation like the option to create an animal from their own imagination!

Finally, in the World lair you will find maps, biomes, nations, cities, structure blueprints, lists of world wonders, trade routes and much much more! While quite a bit has been accomplished for this page not enough of it has been published. Think about how many different artistic contributions can be made in this lair alone!! Worldbuilding is a sought after skill in the game designing realm and some people are incredibly talented. If you have played games like Fallout, Shadow of the Colossus or GTA then I am sure you can imagine the painstaking time spent on creating all the little details and nuances of those worlds.

So there you have it. Out little adventure has come to a halt. It is time to make camp for the moment and rest until our next adventure into the World of Epimetheus comes to pass. There is still a horde's worth of opportunity to get involved, so don't sit idle wishing you could make a video game, contact us and start doing it today!
