Class Cards

So much of the work this last month has been done on the Classes or combat professions. While tons of effort has been invested into differentiating the different playable classes, deciding which ones will be in the first release, what weapons they can wield, which types of armor they can wear, what specialty skills their class possesses, what races can choose that profession, and what sort of restrictions might apply to someone of that given profession.

Behind the scenes here, that has cost dozens of man-hours. Organizing something new can be an adventure. In tandem to the efforts of crafting the combat professions, skills created for the purpose of a profession must find its way onto the master skill list. To date, we have 427 skills listed with the combined noncombat skills that have been created for the Trade professions. That number is expected to more than double as skill matrixes are developed.

To keep information clear and concise much of this data has been organized on spreadsheets. Looking ahead most of those charts are done in an aesthetic manner, lending themselves to future presentation formats and hopefully reducing work in the future. The project has now been underway for nearly two years, and there has accumulated so many regular tasks that working on progress can sometimes get gummed up a little. Many have offered to help, but none have actually stepped up since the ex. She was such an amazing asset to this project, but we are glad to see her go nonetheless. We all know hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

If you are reading this article weeks after it was posted, right now the world is about a month deep into the Corona Virus Epidemic, though the outlets have not referred to it as an epidemic we are. The Developer Producer's job was not considered an essential job and has been laid off from work until the work comes back in. Uncle Sam has promised stimulus checks, and unemployment is being more accepting. Nonetheless, we here at Team Epimetheus believe that everything will work out and thus see this as an opportunity to get more accomplished on the project as well as progress on web development.

Back to the topic at hand however, we have decided on 36 Combat Professions for the first release. Tentatively, they are:

Magicians - Alterer, Chronatos, Cleric, Conjurer, Illusionist, and Necromancer
Knights - Combat Knight, Dread Knight, Knight of Ages, Knight of Despair, Paladin, and Valour Knight
Fighters- Barbarian, Berserker, Poleman, and Axeman
Sorcerers - Adept, Battle-Sorcerer, Mind Mage, and Voodoo Priest
Marksmen - Battler, Fieldsman, Hunter, and Rune-bow
Infantry - Brigadier, Greatsword, Halberdier, Man-at-arms, Pikeman, and Swordsman
Assassins - Kingsblade, Mage Hunter, Mercenary, and Shadowblade
Miscellaneous Class - Princes and Princesses

Sidenote: Brigadiers might be a late release due to its intrinsic relationship to battlefield artillery and large scale PvP.

In an attempt to keep this information in a presentable manner to the less involved perusers of the blog, the accumulated information on the classes has been presented in a Summary card that you will find very soon under each specialization's link. As you can see in 'Image 1'  a simple copy and paste of one of the cards from the spreadsheet and 'Image 2' you can see an edited version for the blog.

The numbers, or fractions if you will show the starting bonuses alongside the maximum bonus, currently written with the understanding that they are percents. The Order of the Cross is the Knight's Order for the Paladins in Epimetheus. In 'Image 2' you can see "+5/25" next to 'Heavy' armor. That means a Paladin automatically starts with a 5% bonus to the positive effects of wearing Heavy Armor with a +25% bonus as the class's cap. In this manner, we are able to shape the combat professions into unique choices and provide a robust list of choices for avatar development.

It is likely that there will continue to be changes made as we continue to move forward in the production cycle, but this is a solid starting point. Wanna see them all?!? You can visit the links provided above or you can visit the Professions Lair and browse the page to find them.

Maybe you disagree with our arrangement, perhaps you do not think a Knights should know how to use a bow so well, or that an adept shouldn't have access to both magic and weapons. We appreciate your input and value your opinion. Contact an admin today to get involved and make your voice heard.
