Where You at Huh?

Back in July of 2019, in the post 'Where's the Content?', we covered the many different extensions of this blog. The only way to keep any online platform relative is to keep updating it. In fact, it has been so long since Squiggletech has been updated, that its traffic has slowed to a grinding halt. This is not a failure, but a learning experience.

In the September post 'Forging a World', the question was asked what it took to make a unique game world. While Team Epimetheus is still working on the pre-production phase of the game's development, the Developer Producer and creator of the game has had to look at the roadmap of this game's development. There is a need to finance this project.

So, one must ask oneself: Self, how are you going to do this? Where are you going to get the funds to make this game a reality? As an individual, I can honestly admit that I have many talents. Maybe not the ones that I want all the time, but still just as unique as the next guy. To have a natural artistic ability yet still approach life with logic and reason is, in fact, a rare talent. Thank you Papa for that. Unfortunately, fund-raising is currently not in the team's repertoire of skills.

I work for one of the greatest companies one could ever come across. It is small and busy. The employees and owners form an efficient team. This, in turn, provides a relaxed work environment in a light-hearted atmosphere. In the employment realm, this is a precious treasure in itself. A person would be a fool for leaving that treasure for a job that simply pays more.

Be that as it may, there is still a need to purchase software, an adequate computer for game engine development, purchasing a domain to expand on the professional face of the project, legal fees associated with a company start-up and things that we are confident have yet to be revealed. Eeking out over ten thousand dollars from a twenty-one thousand dollar a year job on top of child support is just not realistic.

Supplementing an income can be a tricky business. Not only does the opportunity need to provide additional income, but it needs to stay within the desired field if one is to be successful. Like all second jobs, it would need to fit around the existing hours, not consume so many hours as to impair performance for the primary job and still be profitable enough to make it a worthwhile pursuit.

Studying software ensures my ability to craft many of the mechanics that will work 'behind the scenes' to make Epimetheus a reality. Plugging away at the creation of art assets sharpens and broadens my artistic capabilities while fleshing out some of the visual aspects of the game. Looking back at the development of this blog in tandem with the efforts of Squiggletech it occurred to me that the answer was right in front of me.

I have located and purchased some really affordable classes to learn how to develop websites. Given that these blogs are done in HTML (Hyper Text Mark-up Language), like all websites, I already had the fundamentals to become a front end developer. The courses I took in college on C++ and C# meant that without realizing it I had been growing into a full stack developer almost naturally.

To this end, I have already created a company website using HTML and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). This approach allows me to meet all of my needs. Then there is the fact that once I do purchase a domain for Epimetheus I can create that website as well without the need to outsource. This, of course, tears me away from the development of this game as much of my free time is now being spent on those studies.

But fear not my faithful followers, I still plug away at the development of this game. In fact, some of what has been learned is being applied to the blog itself. This can be found within the descriptions of the classes. While the progress has slowed it has not come to a halt. So go to the Professions lair and see if you can find what has been done.

As always, we are on the lookout for motivated, creative individuals who would like to join the team. If you want to jump on board, or just want to throw in your two cents, contact me. Thank you for following along on this game's development and see you next month!
